‘Unusually high’ presence of wild boars in north Kashmir triggers panic among farmers

As the season of paddy seedlings is on in the Kashmir region, people in various areas of north Kashmir's Kupwara and Bandipora are perturbed as seedlings go missing overnight. All this is happening for a month, say locals of Dard Harie village of Kupwara. The Jammu Kashmir administration has renamed a student dormitory after a Hindu goddess and removed the name of a local Muslim saint. As per a news report by The Hindu, the District Development Commissioner of Doda, Vishesh Paul Mahajan, has issued a communique to rename the dormitory located in Jammu Kashmir’s winter capital Jammu. The new name proposed for the dormitory is “Asikni House,” who is a consort of Daksha in the Puranic pantheon. The foundation stone for Asikni House is scheduled to be laid by May 10. The dormitory was previously named after local saint Shah Asrar u Din, also known as Asraria, whose Khanqah is revered by both Hindus and Muslims in the region of Chenab valley’s Kishtwar. Six drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir, psychotropic substances recovered

The Jammu Kashmir Police said it arrested 6 drug peddlers in Baramulla, Budgam & Kulgam and recovered psychotropic substances from their possession. In a statement, police said, in Baramulla, a police party led by SHO Police Station Pattan under the supervision of SDPO Pattan Mohammed Nawaz-JKPS at a checkpoint established at Chinar Crossing Pattan intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully. Suhail Dar Four persons including a husband-wife duo were electrocuted in the Lidroo area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday afternoon, four persons including two women came in contact with a high-tension line in the Pahalgam area's Lidroo after which the four had to be shifted to the nearby hospital for treatment. Identified as Naseema Banoo and her husband Nayeem Ahmed Bhat, residents of Lidroo, Mehraj Reshi, and Mubeena Akhtar, the four are being treated at a nearby hospital.

Meer Irfan Adil Ahmed Mir, a resident of Hanjan area in the Rajpora belt of south Kashmir's Pulwama district has been missing from his home for the last two days. A militant associate was on Monday arrested with AK-47 and other ammunition in Keegam area of South Kashmir's Shopian district. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that based on input received regarding the presence of militants in Daramdora Keegam Shopian, a joint team of forces including Shopian Police and 44 RR launched Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area. He said that during the search operation, an OGW of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit identified as Tanveer Ahmad Wani, son of Bashir Ahmad Wani of Daramdora village in Shopian district was arrested. Panchayat Halqa Mujpathri-Khansahab made history on April 28th by organising the first Gram Sabha on Community Forest Rights under the Forest Rights Act 2006. The event witnessed a large turnout of residents who participated in the historical gathering. The event was assisted and facilitated by J&K- Forest Rights Coalition (FRC). Two persons accused of kidnapping two minor girls have been arrested in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. An official told Kashmir Scroll that on May 1st, 2023, Abdul Rehman Beigh s/o Abdul Rahim Beigh approached police station Sheeri and lodged a complaint alleging that his two daughters ( identity withheld) aged 14 and 15 years, were kidnapped by Mohd Aqib Dar and Rayees Ahmad Lone, both residents of Pehliharan. On this information, PS Sheeri registered a case under FIR No. 38/2023 u/s 363, 376, 506 IPC, he said, adding that the police acting promptly arrested both the accused and rescued the minor girls while the victims were safely handed over to their legal heirs after completing all necessary legal formalities, and the accused are currently in police custody.
