The Jammu Kashmir police have busting an inter-state narcotics racket by arresting two Punjab based peddlers and recovered around 22 Kg Heroine-like substance from them in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district. Around 32 percent men and one percent women consume tobacco in Jammu and Kashmir with cigarettes being the main tobacco product, NHFS-5 data revealed. Official data available with news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) showed that only 1 percent of women in the age 15-49 group use some form of tobacco. "Tobacco products mostly used by men are cigarettes (27% ), bidis (4%), hookah and cigars or pipe (2% each). A food outlet from Karnataka in south India has opened its outlet in Anantnag's K.P road area. On Wednesday, the food chain from Mysore in Karanataka called 'Mr Idli’ inaugurated its outlet in the Mattan area of Anantnag which was attended by senior leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party along with others. On the ocassion, the CEO of ‘Mr Idli’ said, “This is the first restaurant in Kashmir where people can enjoy more than 50 varieties of Idli." He said that the vegetarian restaurant will also provide all types of South Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisines. In the next nine months, the restuarent chain is planning to open up twelve (12) stores across Jammu Kashmir, he added.

The authorities have ordered suspension of vehicular traffic on both sides on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in order to carry out repair and maintenance works in Dhalwas area of Ramban district. According to an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the traffic on National Highway-44 is closed as of now for restoration works at Dhalwas. The Jammu Kashmir police has arrested a total of 217 drug peddlers in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, Police officials said. In an official communique Police has said that a total of 144 cases have been registered against these peddlers in the north Kashmir district in the first five months of the ongoing year 2023. Police has said that drugs worth a total of seven crore, sixty nine lakhs and ninety one thousand (7,69,91,000) have been seized during various operations in the district. "Brown sugar worth 3.41 crores, Heroin worth 3.14 crore, Charas worth 35.10 Lakh, Poppy straw (Fukki) worth 34.91 lakhs has been recovered during the raids," Police said in their press release. The State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir is currently carrying out raids at nine different locations in three districts of south Kashmir, an official said on Thursday. An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that that the SIA personnel accompanied by police and the paramilitary CRPF are carrying out raids at nine locations in three districts. “The searches are underway in Litter area of Pulwama, Shirmal and Kachwa area of Shopian and Chittergul, Semthan and Shangus Uterosoo area of Anantnag districts of south Kashmir,” he said.
