18-year-old girl drown to death in bid to rescue brother from drowning in Bandipora

In a tragic event, a sister drowned to death while attempting to rescue his brother in Sumbal area in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Reports reaching GNS said that a boy namely Nazakat Ali (21) drowned while taking bath in a river in Shadipora of Sumbal area this morning. As the news spread, many onlookers and locals made efforts to rescue the boy and in the meantime sister of the drowned boy also jumped into the river in a frantic attempt to save his brother. As the boy was barely rescued, the girl was found to have lost his breathe upon her retrieval from the water body. The deceased girl has been identified as one Nuzhat Afzal (18). Two minors drown in Jhelum in Sumbal, Rescue ops underway

Two minors drowned in river Jhelum in Shatulpora Sumbal area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Sunday. Reports reaching Kashmir Scroll said that two minors while taking bath in Shatulpora and soon after the incident, teams of Bandipora police joined by locals launched a rescue operation to trace them. Overnight showers bring slight respite from hot weather in J-K

Overnight rains brought some respite from hot and humid weather conditions as night temperature recorded a drop at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. A meteorological department official here told GNS that Srinagar received 1.2mm of rain, Qazigund traces, Pahalgam 1.1mm, Kupwara 0.2mm, Banihal 1.4mm, Batote 8.6mm, Katra 2.2.mm and Bhaderwah 0.4mm. Regarding the temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 19.8°C against 22.4°C on the previous night but it remained above normal by 2.5°C for the summer capital. A herbal garden has been established at an altitude of nearly 15,000 feet above sea level in the mountainous ranges of Phobrang village in Leh, Kashmir News Observer reported. Srinagar woman arrested for allegedly beating husband to death

Jammu Kashmir Police late on Saturday claimed that they have arrested the woman accused of murdering her husband in Srinagar. An official said that the accused Shaheena Begum resident of Srinagar's Bhagat was arrested for allegedly killing her husband. He said that an FIR has been registered vide the number 54/2023 under the section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at Police station Sadar in Srinagar. "Prima facie the crime appears to be done in fit of rage, further investigation is on," Police said. Earlier, Shaheena had beaten her husband Abdul Rashid Dar injuring him critically. When Rashid was rushed to the hospital, he was declared brought dead on arrival.

Wife allegedly beats husband to death in Srinagar

A man lost his life after he was beaten ruthlessly by his wife in central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Saturday evening. An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that one Abdul Rashid Dar son of Abdul Kareem Dar of Rawathpora area of Srinagar was critically injured after beaten ruthlessly by his wife. The officer said the injured man was immediately taken to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A senior police officer also confirmed this news to Kashmir Scroll and said a case has been registered in this regard and further investigation has been set into motion. Man allegedly poisons grandson in south Kashmir

Suhail Dar A man allegedly gave poison to his two year old grandson in the Mir Bazar area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district. Family of the victim said that on Saturday afternoon, a man Ghulam Hassan Bhat aged 65, a resident of Khrewan in Lassipora Kulgam, gave poison to his grandson in the form of an injection in the south Kashmir area. "When the family members saw him lying unconscious, we rushed him to the hsopital in Anantnag from where he has been referred to Srinagar for treatment," the family members told The Kashmiriyat. Amid heat wave, the Directorate of School Education has decided to commence with summer vacation from July—01 in winter zones of Kashmir division.
