Decades long wait over; big screen returns to north Kashmir

In a major move to revive the big screen in Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Saturday inaugurated the two 100-seater Multipurpose Cinema Halls in Baramulla and Handwara. The Cinema has returned to Baramulla and Handwara after more than three decades. Last year, the Lt Governor had revived the Cinema Culture by inaugurating Cinema Halls in Shopian and Pulwama. Another Private Multiplex had also come up in Srinagar in 2022. The Lt Governor has pledged to set up a Cinema Hall in every district to provide the big-screen experience to the people. A kilo of tomatoes now costs more than two kilograms of chicken due to soaring tomato prices. In Srinagar, one kilogram of chicken is available at Rs 120, while one kilogram of tomato is available at Rs 250 per kg. A youth was found dead in a hotel in the Gujjar Nagar area of Jammu officials said. They told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a youth identified as Shaqir Mehraj Dar, son of Mehraj-ud-din Dar resident of Mehjoor Nagar, Srinagar, was found unconscious at a hotel in Gujjar Nagar in the intervening night. The residents of various areas of Srinagar continue to hit the roads against the installation of smart meters. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has blamed the ‘Miya’ Muslim community for the inflated price of vegetables in the state. “The vegetable rates are lower in the rural areas; however, the prices are increased when they are brought to the urban places,” he said.
