J&K administration on Friday withdrew its 2013 order regarding payment of electricity charges by its employees residing in official quarters at Srinagar and Jammu at flat rates. “The Government Order No. 301-GAD of 2013, dated 20.02.2013, pertaining to the payment of electricity charges by Government employees residing in Government Quarters at Srinagar and Jammu at flat rates, is hereby withdrawn with immediate effect,” read the government order.

Four arrested for misbehaving with foreign female tourists

Srinagar, July 14: Police arrested four people for creating a ruckus and misbehaving with two foreign tourists in a hotel in Srinagar on Friday. The accused have been identified as Umer Mehraj Hakeem, Ashiq Ahmad, Ubaid Gulzar, a resident of Chattabal, and Ubaid Bilal Banday, of Karan Nagar, Srinagar, police said. The accused were creating a ruckus in a hotel in the posh Rajbagh area and allegedly misbehaving with the two foreign lady tourists. A case has been registered against the accused at Police Station Rajbagh. “4 youth were arrested for creating a ruckus in a hotel in Rajbagh and for misbehaving with two foreign tourists. With World Health Organization (WHO) declaring that artificial sweetener aspartame widely used in diet drinks could cause cancer, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Friday said it is a matter of serious concern. “Diet drinks have become routine part of people’s lives and the cancer link to these drinks is alarming,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hasan. Dr Hassan said the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) which is the cancer research arm of WHO has linked sweetener aspartame to increased risk of liver cancer. The conclusion is based on three large human studies conducted in the US and Europe that examined artificially sweetened beverages. “The risk is particularly high in those who are taking excess of these soft drinks,” he said. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a cash bounty of Rs 10 lakh on Kulgam-based TRF commander militant Basit Ahmed Dar. As per a report, The reward money has been announced in case 32/2021/NIA/DLI registered against Basit Ahmed Dar of Redwani Payeen, Kulgam in south Kashmir.
