The Jammu Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two persons for kidnaping and raping two minor girls in Srinagar. Police said that the duo had kidnapped and then sexually assaulted two minor girls who were aged 12 and thirteen. A criminal case has been launched against a foreign citizen on suspicion of desecrating the Quran in the Russian city of Ulyanovsk, according to the Russia’s Investigative Committee. The investigation found that the 28-year-old suspect stamped on the Quran, poured alcohol on it, and then tossed the Islamic holy book into the water, while filming everything on his phone, it said. The investigators will ask the court for the man to be placed in custody pending a full probe, the agency pointed out. A search of his home has also been ordered, it added. Rains lashed parts of Jammu Kashmir bringing down the temperature, even as the weatherman on Friday forecast more precipitation July 9. A meteorological department official said that in the last 24 hours, Srinagar received rainfall of 1.2mm, Qazigund 1.4mm, Pahalgam 7.8mm, Kupwara 2.7mm, Kokernag 10.2mm, Gulmarg 0.6mm, Banihal 3.4mm, Batote 2.4mm, Katra 0.6mm and Bhaderwah 0.8mm. One person killed during lightening strike in Kulgam

Danishwar Hameed A man died during a lightening strike in Kulgam district of south Kashmir. An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday morning lightening struck in the Gudder area of Kulgam. One person sustained injuries during the strike after which he was referred to the nearby hospital for treatment. Upon reaching the hospital, the man identified as Abdul Hameed Khan son of Ghulam Hassan Khan, a local resident aged 40 was declared brought dead. Pertinently, the plain areas of Kashmir have been receiving intermittent rainfall since Wednesday night.

The District administration of Kishtwar has seized and sealed two Madrassas (Islamic educational institutes) for Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) violations, Daily Excelsior reported. A Mumbai-based social activist has submitted a written complaint to the police against the makers of Hindi film “72 Hoorain”, accusing them of hurting religious sentiments of a community and attempting to divide the country, an official said on Wednesday. According to the official, the complaint was filed at the Goregaon police station in suburban Mumbai. The activist has submitted a separate complaint to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking a ban on the screening of the movie, his lawyer Ali Kashif Khan said. The movie, directed by Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, is slated to hit theatres on July 7.
