The Jammu Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a man for raping a minor girl in the Safakadal area of Srinagar. An official said that One Mohd Iqbal Sheikh (46 years) presently staying in Pamposh Colony, Srinagar arrested for raping a minor 15 year old girl. He said that the accused is relative of child. In this regard an FIR no 92/2023 has been registered under sections 352,376,506 IPC & 3/4 POCSO act at PS safakadal.

The Supreme Court on Thursday deferred hearing on a plea seeking directions to the Election Commission (EC) and the government for holding immediate Assembly polls in Jammu Kashmir. A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justices P S Narasimha and Manoj Misra noted that petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 were listed for hearing on July 11. Hours after PTI reported that over a dozen persons were arrested for not standing up to the national anthem during an official event, the Police has said that it is "fake news." "There is an unverified news doing round that 14 policemen/persons have been arrested /suspended for disrespecting national anthem. A youth was injured after stabbed by two men in Rajbagh area of Srinagar district on Wednesday. A senior police officer told news agency Kashmir Scroll that a youth was attacked by two men with a knife near Zero Inn Rajbagh, leaving him injured. He said that the injured youth has been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. After the incident, the accused jumped into river Jhelum to escape. However, they were arrested by BSF, he said. The officer further said that the case has been registered in this regard, and further investigation is on.

The Jammu Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have busted a prostitution racket in Baramulla town in north Kashmir. According to a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, Police said that six persons including two females have been arrested and a case under sections of Illicit Trafficking Prevention Act registered and investigations taken up.
