Police on Saturday evening claimed to have arrested one militant associate in the Srinagar district of central Kashmir. Police said in a tweet, "One terror associate of LeT namely Yasir Ahmed Ittoo S/o Ab Rashid Ittoo R/o Gulshanabad, Qaimoh arrested with 4 perfume IEDs from Batmaloo Bus Stand. FIR No 77/2023 under sections 3/5 of Explosive Substances act, 7/25 of IA Act & 13,23 of ULAP Act registered in Batmaloo PS."

Sampat Prakash, Kashmiri Pandit activist whose interviews created a political storm in the region died on Saturday afternoon. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, one of the family members of the Kashmiri Activist said that the 85-year-old passed away in Srinagar. According to the family member, Sampat Prakash son of Neelkanth Kandu suffered a cardiac arrest after which he was rushed to the Sher-e Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences. "Upon our arrival at the hospital Sampat ji was declared brought dead," he told The Kashmiriyat. Sampat Prakash was a great advocate of harmony among various religious, social, ethnic and political identities in Kashmir. Official figures reveal that drugs worth over 11 crores have been recovered from north Kashmir's Baramulla district alone during the present year. As per official figures, accessed by The Kashmiriyat, during the first half of 2022 drugs, including cash used for drugs, worth 11 crore, 8 lakh and four thousand were recovered by Police in the Baramulla district. Police data revealed that a total of 180 cases were registered against 276 persons in drug related cases- out of which 248 persons were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Another Kashmiri pilgrim dies in Mecca during Hajj

A Hajj pilgrim from Srinagar outskirts died in the holy city of Mecca, the relatives said on Saturday. Relatives said that Javed Ahmad Kawoosa, son of Ghulam Mustafa Kawoosa of Hill View Colony, Wanbal Rawalpora went missing two days back in the holy city. They said that his dead body was found today and the last rituals are being performed at present in Mecca. Kawoosa died after completing all the ‘Arkans’ of Hajj-2023. A paramilitary CRPF trooper allegedly ended his life by shooting him self with his service rifle in Wazir Bagh area of Central Kashmir Srinagar district on Saturday officials said. They told news agency Kashmir Scroll said that the constable (name withheld) of CRPF 117 battalion fired upon himself and died on the spot. The trooper on being spotted in pool of blood was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival. A policer officer confirmed to Kashmir Scroll the incident and said that it was not immediately known as to why the trooper took the extreme step. He said investigation is underway in this regard. Missing since June 28, Sikh man found dead in Baramulla

The body of Sikh man who had been missing for three days was recovered from the Jhelum River on Saturday. An official told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that a body was found by some passersby in Jhelum River near Khadanyaar Baramulla, following which a police team reached the site and retrieved the body. The body was identified as Rajinder Singh @Raju a resident of Sangri Colony Baramulla, he said, adding that the deceased had gone missing since June 28th of this year. Meanwhile, police official Confirmed to Kashmir Scroll that the body of the deceased has been sent for the medico-legal formalities and further investigations are going on—(KS)
