In the 2020 Delhi riots case, a court in the national capital has discharged three individuals who were accused of rioting, being part of an unlawful assembly and committing vandalism during the riots. The Additional Sessions Judge, Pulastya Pramachala of Karkardooma Courts, while discharging the accused namely Akil Ahmad, Rahish Khan and Irshad, expressed suspicion over the conduct of the investigating officer (IO) from the Delhi Police. The judge stated that there were indications of the IO manipulating evidence and filing chargesheets in a pre-determined and mechanical manner. Minor boy from Srinagar slips to death in Hajin canal

A 2-year-old boy slipped to death into a canal in Hajin area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Saturday. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the boy identified as Uzair Fayaz (2) son of Fayaz Ahmad of Srinager was crossing a culvert and accidentally fell into the canal. NIA arrests father-son duo during raids in Kupwara

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at three different locations in Kashmir and a house at Bhatindi in Jammu. Reports said that Mehraj-u-Din Sofi, 19, and his father Ghulam Mohammad Sofi were picked up by the NIA early morning from Kralpora village of Kupwara. The duo has been taken to Srinagar for questioning. Mehraj-ud-Din is pursuing B.Com from Government Degree College Kupwara. The NIA also carried out raids in Kulgam and Shopian. A 40-year-old man who went missing around seven days ago in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district was traced out by the police on Saturday. Police officials told that the man identified as Mohammad Ashraf Bhat (40), a resident of Zangalpora, Kulgam went missing after leaving his home to purchase gold for his marriage. They said that Bhat, an Electronic Engineer by profession, was found in Qazigund after the strenuous efforts of SHO Kulgam. “The operation to trace out the missing person was conducted under the supervision of Additional Headquarter Kulgam and other officials,” they added. The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh quashed the Public Safety Act (PSA) of four valley residents. Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that the court has ordered the authorities to release the four immediately. The four detainees have been identified as Manzoor Ahmed Ganie of Kulgam, Faizan Aijaz Mir of Srinagar, Aqib Bashir Wagay of Shopian; and Mukhtiyar Ahmad Bhat of Anantnag. Wagay was booked on April 7 last year, while Bhat was booked on the basis of an order dated June 29, 2022. Ganie was booked on June 25 last year, Mir was detained on February 28, 2022

25-year-old woman allegedly hangs self in Bandipora

A woman from Quilmpora area of north Kashmir Bandipora district has allegedly committed suicide at her rented room. An official told the news agency Kashmir Scroll that a 25 year old life has taken her life by hanging herself at their rented accommodation in Quilmuqam during the intervening night. He said that police party reached to the spot and body has been taken to SDH Bandipora for medical formalities. Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further investigation.(KS)

The Goa Police booked a man over the allegations of insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi through a social media post. Nazario D’Souza, a resident of Panaji in Goa had  had shared a satirical cartoon on Facebook on which was originally drawn by artist Mir Suhail. The cartoon appeared to allude to the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, as part of which the Centre encouraged citizens to post selfies with the national flag on social media on Independence Day, reported Indian Express. The man was booked after a complaint by Inacio Domnic Pereira, ward member of Panaji’s Santa Cruz panchayat. “In this post, he depicted the prime minister of our country as a chameleon on the national flag,” the complaint said.
