In a first, the Shankaracharya temple here in Srinagar in the banks of world famous Dal Lake has recorded the footfall of around 73,000 devotees on the eve of Raksha Bandhan, the festival that was celebrated with religious fervor across Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the special prayers were held at the temple on the festival today where a huge rush of devotees was witnessed at 4:00 AM in the morning. 600 plus families to get compensation for land acquired by Defence Estates Department

After a gap of around 10 years, the 600-plus aggrieved families in Budgam district are supposed to get compensation for their 4000 Kanals of land which was acquired by the Defence Estates Department at Srinagar Old Airfield area ( Estate Karewa Damodar) in 2013. The aggrieved land owners and farmers have been waiting for the payment since then. Part of the payment Rs 4.80 lakhs per kanal was already paid to each family but the rates were enhanced to Rs 18 to 20 lakhs per kanal and said payment was not disbursed to the families. ‘Eye flu’ cases are on the rise in Jammu Kashmir as the hospitals across the region continue to receive patients complaining of irritation, redness, swelling and itching in their eyes. Doctors from Kashmir and Jammu divisions told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the cases of conjunctivitis, popularly known as ‘eye flu’, are on the rise in Kashmir division while cases have started declining in Jammu division. A middle-aged woman died on the spot after being hit by a private car near Naqashbandh Sahab shrine in Khawaja Bazar area of Srinagar downtown on Wednesday. Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a private Ignis car (JK01AQ-5374) hit a female pedestrian who died on the spot. The driver Altaf Ahmed Shiekh reportedly surrendered before the police after which the vehicle was seized by the police. The deceased lady was shifted by police to SMHS Hospital for postmortem. Government Wednesday named a Primary School in honor of a slain policeman who was the security guard of government gunman turned politician Kuka Parrey in north Kashmir’s Bandipora. The school is located at Bonikhan Hajin and was known as Government Primary School Bonikhan.
