The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear from August 2 a batch of petitions challenging abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution that bestowed special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu  Kashmir. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will conduct day-to-day hearing from Wednesday. The bench, also comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai and Surya Kant, had on July 11 fixed July 27 as the deadline for filing written submissions and convenience compilations by different parties. A local court in Srinagar has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against managing director of a Jammu-based newspaper for publishing a "false" and "fabricated" news report regarding sale of question papers of Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board. The Jammu Kashmir Police has said it arrested one person for spreading animosity between two religious groups in Kashmir. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that one Mutahir Dar, a resident of Mahoo in Banihal has been arrested for promoting enmity between different groups and provoking people to attack religious symbols.
