A family head and son were allegedly beaten up by 'teachers' over some school land issue in the Rajpora area of Pulwama district. Reports said that Syed Mukhtar Ahmad Shah who has claimed to have given land for school construction was allegedly beaten by the teachers in Inderwali Rajpora, Pulwama. Shah said that he is working as CPW in Govt Middle School Inderwali, Rajpora, for which he had given land. “There was a shed constructed and they (teachers) were.. it” Shah claimed. Tragedy struck a Doda family, whose seven members were critically injured among which one died in the hospital after a speeding truck hit their vehicle when the driver was trying to cross the highway near Levidora Qazigund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday. Police sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that 7 members of the Doda family including the driver were on their way to Srinagar from Doda and were travelling in an Eco vehicle (JK06B 0901) when a truck hit the left extreme portion of the vehicle while the driver was taking a turn. Despite the month long protests by the Gujjar and Bakerwal community against any change to the existing ST status, the Jammu Kashmir administration has granted a six-month extension for the Commission led by retired Justice G.D. Sharma, formed in March 2020, to review reservation policies for various groups. The term of the commission expired on 18 September 2023, however, the bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on July 26, 2023. It amends the Jammu Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004 that provides for reservation in jobs and admission in professional institutions to members of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other socially and educationally backward classes.
