Lightning strike kills 80 animals in J-K’s Ramban

At least 80 sheep and goats died after lightning struck in a hilly area of Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. Local sources said that the lightning struck at Hinjhal top meadow of Banihal in Ramban killing at least 80 sheep and goats. The owner of the animals claimed that dozens of sheep and goats were still missing. Official sources however said that the carcasses of only 40 animals have been recovered so far. They said that teams from the police and sheep husbandry department are in the area to take stock of the situation. [KNT]

The Women’s Reservation Bill, formally known as the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Eighth Amendment) Bill, 2023, was added to the Lok Sabha’s agenda on Tuesday. The measure calls for a reservation to last for 15 years and includes provisions for seats to be set aside for women from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). Danishwar Hameed A fourty year old man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Churath area of Kulgam in south Kashmir. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday night a man (name with held) was found hanging in an orchard in the Churath area of Qazigund in south Kashmir. The man, a resident of YK Pora was rushed to the nearby hospital, upon being spotted. However, the doctors said he had been brought dead to the hospital, as per the official. The official said that the deceased was mentally unsound and was missing from home. Police have registered a case and started an investigation.
