The Commanding Officer (CO) of the 19RR of the Indian Army, stationed in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, was among the three Government force personnel killed during the ongoing encounter in the Gadol area of the south Kashmir district, reported Press Trust of India. An official confirmed to The Kashmiriyat that 19RR of Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir Police were fired upon by militants when they had laid a cordon and search operation in the area. During the initial exchange of gunfire, three top ranking officials of Indian Army and Police were injured and soon rushed to the Army's 92 base hospital in Srinagar for treatment. A local court in Srinagar sent Waqar H. Bhatti, arrested over twelve days ago, to a six-day judicial remand on Tuesday. Bhatti, a socio-political activist, was arrested on 01 September after Darakshan Andrabi, who serves as Chairperson of Waqf Board, allegedly registered a complaint against him. In a application, Andrabi has written, “With respects I request your goodself to Kindly consider my application for issuing orders to the police to register an FIR against one Waqar Batti (a known Anti- India so called activist from Poonch area presently residing in South Kashmir reportedly somewhere in Kokernag) on the following grounds,” the application reads. Kashmiri athlete wins silver in Senior National Taekwondo Championship

Afreen Hyder, a Kashmiri Taekwondo player, is the first athlete from Jammu Kashmir to earn a silver medal in Kyorugi. The 23-year-old represented Jammu Kashmir at the 39th National Senior Taekwondo Championships, which were held in Guwahati, Assam between September 9 and 11. The All Assam Taekwondo Association organized the Championship, which was sanctioned by the Taekwondo Federation of India and approved by the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Afreen defeated Rajasthan in her first match, Sikkim in her second, Manipur in her third, and Madhya Pradesh in her fourth. However, Kerala defeated her in the championship match.

One more militant and a police SPO were killed in a gunfight in Rajouri district, officials said on Wednesday. In all, two militants, an army soldier and the SPO were killed in the gunfight, they said. Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, PRO (Defence) Jammu, told GNS that Indian Army and JKP have been tracking two militants since September 7. A heavy firefight on September 12 led to the death of one militant at Narla area of the district, he said. Despite challenging weather and terrain, he said, the second militant was neutralized today. Officers of Army and Jammu and Kashmir police were injured during encounter that broke out between in Gadool hamlet of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Wednesday, police said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the area. He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, terrorists fired upon them, which was retaliated to, thus triggering an encounter. Central Kashmir's Srinagar district recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2°C, which is 6.0°C above normal.
