LG Manoj Sinha hands over appointment letters to kin of Civilians killed in Shopian fake encounter

The Jammu Kashmir admin on Tuesday handed over the appointment letters to the next of kin of three civilians killed in Shopian in July 2020. The appointment letters were handed over by LG Manoj Sinha on compassionate grounds over to Shareen Akhter, wife of Mohammed Abrar, Mohammed Arif, brother of Mohammed Imtiyaz and Farayaz Ahmed, brother of Mohd Abrar, all residents of Rajouri. The trio was killed in an encounter on July 18, 2020 in the Amshipora area of Shopian. Later, it turned out that the claims of the army that the three slain militants were actually civilians and had been killed in a fake encounter for cash and other rewards. Heavy exports of walnuts from Californian, Chinese and Chile continue to affect the walnut industry of the valley, which is currently witnessing a low demand for this dry fruit nationwide. It is the peak time for harvesting of walnuts across the valley. The growers, however, claimed that there is a low demand for the walnuts for the six straight years due to the heavy exports of walnuts from these foreign countries. Local Body Polls: CEO J&K unveils draft reservation proposal for 77 municipalities

Jammu Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer on Tuesday unveiled draft reservation proposal of 77 urban local bodies in the Union Territory. As per a notification, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), CEO J&K unveiled the proposal for reservation of wards for women, schedule castes and schedule tribes in the ULBs. As per the notification, objections and suggestions over the proposal can be filed in next seven days in the office of CEO. The CEO has proposed to reserve 25 wards for women in Srinagar Municipal Corporation and 25 wards for women, 10 for Schedule Castes and two for Scheduled Tribes in Jammu Municipal Corporation.
