‘Sent fake photographs, collected mehr’: Fake marriage holding nexus busted in Kunzer

A fake marriage-holding nexus has been busted in the Kunzer area of Baramulla in north Kashmir and four persons detained in the connection. Police in a statement said that the case was brought to police's attention through an application submitted by some persons of Kunzer area. According to the complaint, the accused individuals were operating as middlemen during marriage functions. "They used WhatsApp to send photos of various young women, falsely claiming they were ready for marriage. These individuals convinced the victims on the other side to agree to marriage proposals, fix the Mehr money, and make payments. Rupesh Masson, who is the regional director of UCMAS for Jammu Kashmir and Leh claimed that  he has bought land at “Luna Earths Moon, Tract 55-Parcel 10772 known as Lacus Felicitatis (Lake of Happiness).” “I purchased the land from The Lunar Registry in New York City and it was certified on August 25,” said Masson, as per Hindustan Times. He said that he feels that a plot on the moon is either a token of hope in the future or a cost-effective psychological escape hatch for the person confronting climate change. Rupesh also claimed that around 675 celebrities and three former presidents of the United States had extra-terrestrial land holdings.

Danishwar Hameed A truck driver from Kulgam district in south Kashmir died in Rajasthan. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, a family member said that Waseem Ahmed Bhat, a resident of Kulgam's Laroo area died in a road accident in the Bhilwara area of Rajasthan. Waseem, aged 33 was driving his truck on the highway carrying loaded with bananas was driving his truck to Kashmir when he met an accident in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the family member said. Waseem has left behind his wife and 2 year old daughter.

High Court of J&K and Ladakh quashed the detention orders of four persons booked under the Public Safety Act and ordered their release "if not needed in any other case." A bench of Justice Sanjay Dhar quashed detention orders against Saqib Ahmed Waza of Tral and Imran Ganie of Baramulla and Shakir Ahmed Kumar of Shopian. Imran was booked under the Public Safety Act since April 9 April 2022, Saqib was detained on 16 December 2021. and Shakir was jailed under PSA since 28 June, 2022. The PSA detention of Manzoor Ahmad Wani of Qaimoh Kulgam, detained since 27 August, 2022 was quashed by Justice M A Chowdhary.

Baramulla alone saw seizure of drugs worth over 12 crores in 2023

Bhat Yasir The drug trade in Kashmir has seen a drastic rise in the Kashmir valley during the past few years. Official figures reveal that drugs worth over 12 crores have been recovered from north Kashmir's Baramulla district alone during the present year. As per official figures, accessed by The Kashmiriyat, during the first eight months of 2023 drugs, including cash used for drugs, worth twelve crore, seven lakh and fifty nine thousand were recovered by Police in the Baramulla district. Police data revealed that a total of 213 cases were registered against 313 persons in drug related cases- out of which 289 persons were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
