Court quashes PSA detention of Kashmiri youth lodged in Haryana jail since 2022

Jammu Kashmir High Court has quashed the detention of a North Kashmir labourer under the contentious Public Safety Act (PSA). Senior Advocate Bashir Ahmed Tak representing the incarcerated student informed that the detention of 22-year-old labouer Muhammad Iliyas Dar, a resident of Rahpora Khudwani village of Kulgam was quashed by the court of Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul nearly over a year after he was arrested on charges of allegedly indulging in anti-national activities in May 2022 and simultaneously booked under the PSA. The accused was put behind bars in an old FIR lodged against him by Kulgam police in 2021. He is currently languishing at Haryana jail in Gurgaon. Official sources said that NIA sleuths on Wednesday arrested the Rohingya refugee, identified as Zafar Alam in Jammu city. Assistant Professor dies of cardiac arrest in Anantnag

A government professor from Anantnag died after he suffered cardiac arrest on Tuesday afternoon. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Dr. Fayaz Ahmed Shah, a resident of Aishmuqam suffered a cardiac arrest after which he was rushed to the Anantnag district hospital. He breathed his last at the hospital, they said, "after this his family was called to the hospital and the body was handed over to them by the hospital authorities." Dr Fayaz Shah was an assistant professor of Botany posted at  at the Degree college of Anantnag. His death has brought grief to his students and neighbours equally. His colleagues have also expressed grief over the untimely demise of Dr. Fayaz Ahmed Shah.
