Parts of Kashmir receive fresh snowfall, Gulmarg records Minus 10.0°C

Parts of the Kashmir valley experienced rain and snow overnight, while the night temperature rose in some areas and dropped in others, according to officials. Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 10.0°C on Sunday. A meteorological department official said that Srinagar received 1.4mm of precipitation in the last 24 hours and recorded a minimum temperature of 0.5°C, compared to the previous night’s minus 3.1°C. He mentioned that this temperature was 1.0°C below normal for Srinagar during this season. ‘Langars attacked, youth kidnapped’: Farmers condemn police brutality at Haryana border

Several youth participating in the farmers protests have been allegedly kidnapped by the Haryana Police, families of the victims said. Adressing a press conference, several leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha alleged rampant police brutality and kidnappings of the participants of peaceful demonstrations at the borders of Haryana. Farmers have been on a protest since February 13, when they started marching towards New Delhi, in support of a law governing the Minimum Support Price, a demand accepted by central government following one year of agitation by the farmers in 2020. Kashmiri man goes missing in Russia after being wounded

A Kashmiri man has gone missing along with two others in Russia, Mid Day reported on Thursday. According to the report, Zahoor Ahmed Sheikh, a resident of Hajinar village in Tangdhar area of north Kashmir's Kupwara district, has been reported missing in Russia since December. Zahoor Ahmed Sheikh, the Kashmiri youthh, who had previously worked in Chandigarh, embarked on a journey to Russia in December 2023, accompanied by two companions – Arbaab from Uttar Pradesh and Asfaan from Hyderabad. The trio suffered injuries in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict after being allegedly deceived under the pretense of securing jobs as helpers, but they were later transferred to red-zone border areas where they found themselves caught in the crossfire. Assam government repeals Muslim Marriage Act

Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act of 1935 was repealed by the state government of Assam on Friday. The decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting on Friday night chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. It comes three weeks after Uttarakhand became the first state to enact Uniform Civil Code legislation. Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah referred to it as a major step toward a Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Four houses attached in Kashmir in ‘militancy funding’ case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday attached properties of four accused persons in a ‘narco-terror’ funding case in Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district of Jammu Kashmir. Official sources said that the properties were attached in connection with an investigation of a case RC-03/2020/NIA/JMU related to the narco-terrorism. The accuser who properties were attached include Muneer Ahmed Banday son of Ghulam Rasool Banday, Afaq Ahmed Wani son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, Abdul Moomin Peer son of late Mohammed Asraf Peer and Saleem Andrabi son of Syed Iftikhar Geelani of Laribal Rajiwar.
