Non-local victim of human trafficking rescued in Bandipora, says Police

On Sunday, Bandipora police in north Kashmir, said it rescued a non-local woman who had fallen victim to human trafficking. The rescue operation led to the arrest of Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh, as the individual who illegally purchased the victim. According to police, the woman was sold to Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh from Banyari Ajas, Bandipora. Following the rescue, authorities initiated legal proceedings, with FIR registered at the Sumbal Police Station. Man killed by cousin during family dispute in Bandipora

A 38-year-old man was killed in Hajjin area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district after being hit by his cousin brother during a heated altercation. Sources told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that the incident marks the third violent family dispute in the region in recent weeks. Residential house damaged due to heavy winds in Kulgam area

Danishwar Hameed A residentia house was partially damaged due to heavy rainfall at Pranhall (Gujjar Basti) area of Pahloo tehsil in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday. An official told The Kashmiriyat that due to heavy rainfall the house of Hashmat Ali Khatana son of Ab Salam Khatana of Pranhall got partially damaged on wee hours of Monday. He said that there was, however, no injury reported in the incident, as the villagers reached the spot immediately and rescued the families. “Teams have been sent to the spot and assistance will be provided to the family”, he said.

Power outage at Fajr prayers is the new normal in Kashmir

Locals of Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley have expressed anguish over the failure of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) to supply power during ‘Fajar’ (pre-dawn) prayers. According to locals, it has become routine for the KPDCL to snap the power supply either before or shortly after the Fajar Azan. They said power outages in Kashmir are rampant and frequent all day but it has now become a new norm for believers to do ablution and offer Fajar prayers in the dark. “For the past month, I have been witness to the fact that as soon as a call for prayers is given from our local mosque, electricity disappears. Kashmir University postpones all exams scheduled for today

University of Kashmir has suspended all exams scheduled for today due to ongoing snowfall in parts of the Kashmir valley. “In view of prevailing weather situation, all the examinations of University of Kashmir scheduled for February 19 and 20 of 2024 have been postponed,” Controller Examination Kashmir University said. The fresh dates will be communicated separately, university authorities informed. However, Controller Examination Cluster University Srinagar said all the exams will be held as per schedule today (February 19 of 2024)

Security tightened across Kashmir ahead of PM Modi’s visit to JK
