Despite alarm, growth regulators in high demand in Kashmir orchards

Kashmir orchardists are spraying growth regulators worth crores despite not being recommended by SKAUST or the department of horticulture. With the onset of spring, growers in several areas of Kashmir have started spraying growth regulators in their orchards with the claim it helps in better fruit set. But some still believe it is a waste of time. Experts told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that there are over a dozen brands of growth regulators available in the market but none of them have been recommended either by the directorate of horticulture or by SKUAST (Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology). Panthachowk residents protest seeking completion of footbridge

Shabir Ali The residents of Pantha Chowk in Srinagar staged a protest on Tuesday morning to demand the completion of a footbridge in the area. Raising slogans against the administration, the locals including women and children from Summerbugh said that despite so many years having passed the construction of the bridge has not been completed. They said that the construction of the footbridge  at Pantha Chowk was laid in 2017 by the former Minister for Public Works. The bridge was laid down to connect the areas of Sunmerbugh, Karnabal with the Pantha Chowk. Father of two young children from Kulgam dies in road accident on Srinagar- Jammu highway

Danishwar Hameed A man died after the vehicle he was driving rolled down the road and fell into Chenab River on Srinagar-Jammu highway. An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Tuesday a dumper vehicle  beating the registration number JK18D 1453 fell into Chenab river at Sherbibi area of Banihal, resulting in the death of the driver and injuries to two others. The deceased was identified as Nawaz Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammed Amin Bhat, a resident of Laisoo, Kulgam. Two others injured in the accident were identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Wagay, son of Bashir Ahmad wagay and Zubair Ahmad sofi son of Mushtaq Ahmed sofi, both resident of Damhal Hanjipora in Kulgam. Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday announced grant of three-day special casual leave to Jammu-based employees serving in Kashmir on polling days. “Sanction is hereby accorded to grant of three (03) days Special Casual Leave in favour of employees of Jammu division working in Kashmir Valley, during various phases of Lok Sabha Elections,” reads an order, as per GNS.
