At least 50 houses got damaged after a road caved in Pernote area of Ramban district on last evening, officials said on Friday. Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer-ul-Haq told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that 30 residential houses got damaged in the initial stage and later 20 more got affected. "We are shifting the affected families to the safer places and the administration is making arrangements for food and other related stuff for the affected families," he said. He further stated that the work on the restoration of essential services will be ensured soon and that losses are being assessed. The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has quashed a preventive detention order under the Public Safety Act against a former spokesperson of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, terming it illegal and unjustified. The High Court also rapped the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police of Pulwama and ordered the J&K government to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the petitioner. Residential houses in Bandipora area of Nuner in Ganderbal have developed cracks due to heavy traffic allowed through the narrow road. The residents of the area told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that infrastructure isn't designed to handle heavy volume of traffic, causing traffic jams as well as affecting residential houses. “School going children, elderly persons and patients are mainly who are suffering due to traffic jams on the road,” residents said. The body of second missing minor boy, who drowned after a boat capsized in river Jhelum in Gandabal area of Srinagar on April 16, was retrieved from the river on Saturday morning, at Noorbagh Srinagar after 12 days, officials said. Eleven days after going missing, the dead body of the seventh victim in Srinagar boat tragedy has been found. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that the body of a young child was found floating in the Jhelum river near Rajbagh in Srinagar. They said that the body has been handed over to the Police who have taken it for medico-legal formalities. "The body has not been identified as of yet, however, the body recovered is that of a young child," said locals. Earlier on April 16, a boat carrying 19 persons capsized in Srinagar:s Gandbal area when it was crossing Jhelum river, six persons died in the incident, while ten were rescued. Officials and locals have been on massive searches since then to locate the three missing persons.

In a tragic incident this morning, a mentally unsound man killed a woman in Chogal village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials reported. An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS), that the assailant attacked the woman while she was walking along the road, inflicting multiple severe injuries. He said that she was later rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where she succumbed to her injuries The victim has been identified as Atiqa Begum (60), wife of Abdul Rahman Lone from Magam Handwara.
