Rayees Shah A tourist died and another was rescued after the duo was left trapped in a snow cavity at Thajwas glacier in Sonamarg. An official told The Kashmiriyat that a tourist duo accidently fell into a snow cavity at the Thajwas glacier. “As the news spread, the tourists at the spot alongside the police retrieved the body of one while another trapped person was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital,” the official said. The official identified the deceased as one Deepak Prahlad Patil, a resident of Maharashtra.

Danishwar Hameed At least eight tourists were injured in a road accident at Nipora area of Qazigund in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday afternoon., An official told The Kashmiriyat that a scorpio bearing registration number PB47F 8687 collided a tree at Nipora area of Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway road, resulting in injuries to eight tourists. The injured were immediately taken to nearby hospital for treatment where two among them is said to be in critical condition. Three of them succumbed to their injuries, hospital officials told The Kashmiriyat. Incharge Police Post Mirbazar, Toser Ahmed Khan also confirmed the incident and said case has been registered and further investigation has been taken up in this regard.

Four persons sustained injuries after two groups clashed during polling at polling station Shahpur in District Poonch on Saturday. Officials told GNS that around 12:35 pm two groups clashed between each other for unknown reasons at polling station Shahpur. During classes four people sustained injuries and where shifted to district hospital Poonch for treatment. They have been identified as Zahoor Din (40) son of Mohammad Sharif, Shazad Ahmad (20) Son of Mohammad Yousuf, Miss Saleema Bi(18) wife of Shazad Ahmad and Mohammad Aslam (22) son of Mohammad Sharif all residents of Shahpur. The Block Development Officer (BDO) of Gund in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district has issued a building permit to a Punjab resident, violating High Court orders and the Sonamarg Master Plan, according to a report by Daily Excelsior. Farooq Ahmad Baba, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), has called for an inquiry into the BDO's unauthorized action. Following this, the government transferred the BDO, assigning Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Gulzar Ahmad, additional responsibilities as CEO of the SDA.
