‘Wrong evaluation’: HC asks Kashmir University to pay 1 Lakh fine to student

The High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh has ordered Kashmir University to pay Rs 1 lakh in damages to a student for "illegality and arbitrariness" in evaluating his English paper during the B.A. 5th Semester Examination for the 2017-18 session. The student's plea revealed that after the results were declared, he was marked as failed in the General English Paper with 27 marks, below the 38 required to pass. Upon obtaining a xerox copy of his answer sheet, he discovered that one of the questions had not been evaluated. The student then applied for re-evaluation and was awarded 40 marks. Rayees Shah The Forest Department on Wednesday claimed to have seized a huge quantity of "illegal" Chinar timber in the Ganderbal district of Kashmir. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on the late night hours of Tuesday evening, a joint operation by the J&K Forest Department and the Forest Protection Force along with Police at Forest check post Sonmarg resulted in the seizure of an LP truck loaded with illegal Chinar timber. The seizure took place at the forest check post in the Sonamarg area of central Kashmir's Ganderbal district.

One family member killed, two injured in geyser explosion in Budgam

A tragic incident occurred this morning in the village of Narkara, Budgam, when a geyser explosion at a residence led to one fatality and injuries to two family members. The explosion happened at the home of Manzoor Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Gani Dar. According to officials, the explosion caused significant structural damage, resulting in the collapse of the house. Manzoor Ahmad Dar, who was inside at the time, was buried under the rubble and died instantly. Rescue teams were able to extricate two other family members from the debris. They sustained various injuries and were immediately transported to JVC Hospital in Srinagar for medical treatment.

A 5-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, Surya Kant and AS Bopanna dismissed the review petitions in chamber noting that there was no apparent error in the judgment delivered on December 11, 2023. “Having perused the review petitions, there is no error apparent on the face of the record.
