Summer vacations announced in Kashmir; To begin from July 8

Summer vacations are likely to start from the second week of July, sources informed The Kashmiriyat. As per the sources, in view of the extreme heat wave the Kashmir valley is undergoing, the education department is likely to announce the vacations from July 08, 2024. The vacation has been announced in view of the soaring mercury in the valley with temperatures rising above normal degrees. The Meteorological Department, on Saturday, reported that Srinagar experienced a maximum temperature of 30.9°C, while Qazigund recorded 30.2°C. In other locations, Pahalgam had 25.7°C, Kupwara reached 31.2°C, Kokernag was at 29.4°C, and Gulmarg noted a cooler 20.8°C. In Banihal, temperatures peaked at 30°C with a minimum of 21.6°C. A third batch of 6,619 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu in two separate convoys to join the annual Amarnath Yatra in the Kashmir Himalayas, officials reported on Sunday. On the first day of the 52-day pilgrimage, which began from the Pahalgam and Baltal routes, approximately 14,000 devotees paid obeisance at the sacred cave shrine situated at an altitude of 3,880 meters. The third group, including 1,141 women, left in 319 vehicles between 3:50 am and 4:45 am under tight security. Despite the rain in Jammu, 3,838 pilgrims chose the Pahalgam route while 2,781 took the Baltal route. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday morning a woman aged 27 was found unconscious under mysterious conditions at her home in the Bon Devsar area of Kulgam. As soon as her family members spotted her, she was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead. ONGC launches 100-bed hospitals at Amarnath Yatra base camps

ONGC has set up two 100-bed hospitals at the twin Amarnath base camps in Kashmir and announced that the facilities would continue to operate post the annual yatra. The 52-day pilgrimage commenced from the twin tracks — the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the 14-kilometre shorter but steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal — early on Saturday. The yatra is scheduled to commence on August 19. ONGC said it teamed up with the health and medical education department to bolster the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
