Two militants killed in ongoing encounter in Baramulla

An encounter has started between militants and government forces in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Wednesday afternoon government forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Bandipora area of Rafiabad in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. During the cordon, the hiding militants opened fire on forces, resulting in an encounter. During the following exchange of gunfire, two militants have been killed and  one trooper has been inured who has been rushed to the hospital, they said. "Encounter has started at Hadipora Sopore Rafibad, area of #Baramulla. Police and security forces are on the job," Jammu Kashmir Police tweeted.

Engineer Rashid, who won the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat in Jammu Kashmir in 2019, will remain in Delhi's Tihar Jail as an NIA court has denied his interim bail request in a terror funding case, his lawyers announced on Tuesday. Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, ran as an Independent candidate and defeated National Conference leader and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in Baramulla. Rashid was arrested in 2019 in connection with a Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case. He sought interim bail to take his oath as an MP but has been imprisoned since 2019. Rayees Shah Two persons lost their lives, and three others were injured when a vehicle was struck by falling rocks near Zojila in the Ganderbal district. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday afternoon the incident occurred at Paani Mata near Zojila, where an Alto vehicle was hit by falling stones. The official reported that a woman and a child died at the scene, while three others sustained severe injuries. They further said that the injured were initially taken to the Primary Health Center in Sonamarg and later transferred to Srinagar for further treatment.
