Four army personnel, including an officer, succumbed to injuries sustained during a gunfight with heavily-armed militants in Doda district, Jammu Kashmir. The encounter, officials told The Kashmiriyat, occurred late Monday evening when the Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of J&K Police launched a joint operation at Dhari Gote Urarbagi in the Desa forest belt, approximately 55 km from Doda town. The average price of saffron—also known as the ‘King of spices’—has fallen 4.5% in the national capital, New Delhi, during the past two years. In the financial year (FY) 2024, the saffron was sold at Rs. 166,562.5 a kilogram in the wholesale market, while its average price in the Delhi markets during FY 2022 was Rs. 174,430.56 a kilogram, said an official data. The prices were reportedly indicative of trends and obtained from local markets in Delhi. However, prices for saffron vary across the country depending on quality and origin. Over 4,800 pilgrims left Jammu early Monday to join the Amarnath Yatra at the twin base camps in Kashmir, officials said. Escorted by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, the 18th batch included 4,875 pilgrims—3,464 men, 1,333 women, 14 children, and 64 sadhus and sadhvis—who departed for Baltal and Pahalgam base camps in 162 vehicles around 3 am. Of these pilgrims, 2,957 took the traditional 48-km Pahalgam route, while 1,918 opted for the shorter but steeper 14-km Baltal route. Since June 28, when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch, a total of 96,072 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the Valley. The 52-day yatra began on June 29 and will conclude on August 19. Last year, over 4.5 lakh pilgrims visited the cave shrine.

Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul observed this in his judgment. The High Court was hearing a case where an estranged wife had initially secured an ex-parte maintenance order in 2009. This was challenged by the husband. The dispute reached the High Court and the matter was remitted back to a trial court in 2013. Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested lawyer Mian Muzzafar and booked him under the Public Safety Act (PSA), his family said on Sunday. Muzaffar, who is the nephew of former Bar Association President Mian Qayoom, is the third lawyer arrested by the police in the past fortnight. Mian Qayoom was arrested by J&K police in the murder of Advocate Babar Qadri in 2020. “Advocate Mian Muzaffar was arrested by the police in the midnight raid from home and booked under PSA”, family said. However, police have yet to issue a statement over Muzaffar’s arrest. The administration has granted permission for the Muharram procession on the 8th of Muharram, which will take place from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah Kadal and M.A Road in Srinagar, sources told The Kashmiriyat. An application from the Yaadgar-i-Hussaini Committee requested permission for the procession, following which a review was called in. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, conveyed no objection to the request.
