Admin launches ₹400 crore solar power project for government buildings

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has greenlit a significant Rs 400 crore initiative to install grid-tied rooftop solar power systems across all government buildings in the region. This decision was taken by the Administrative Council, chaired by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha . The project will involve installing rooftop solar power systems with an aggregate capacity of 70 MW under Capex mode and an additional 200 MW under RESCO mode. The Jammu & Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JKEDA) will oversee the implementation of this extensive project. Schools in Rajasthan will commemorate Savarkar Jayanti on May 28 and mark the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu Kashmir as ‘Swarn Mukut Mastak Diwas’ on August 5, according to the 2024-25 calendar issued by the state’s Education Department. According to a report by IANS, the calendar also introduces ‘No Bag Day’ on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, during which schools will organize various activities for students to engage in. Additionally, the Education Department has announced On-Job training for Class 11 and 12 students during the winter holidays. Shubam Sharma, a resident of Bantalab on Jammu’s outskirts, was reportedly playing cricket near his home when police raided the area on Sunday evening in search of drug traffickers. Sharma’s family claims he was detained and severely beaten by the police before they left the scene. Sharma was taken to the hospital but died shortly after. Shabir Khan Four persons succumbed to their injuries after being critically injured in a mysterious blast in the Sopore area of north Kashmir. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Monday afternoon, four persons critically injured in a a mysterious blast were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. Three of them were identified as Nazir Ahmed Nadroo, Azim Ashraf Mir and Abdul Rashid Bhat, all residents of Shair Colony in Sopore. The four who were injured in the blast that occurred when a scrap dealer was unloading goods from a truck, have succumbed to their injuries, an official confirmed. The cause of the blast was not immediately known.

Srinagar records hottest night of season, 2nd highest in 132 years

For the second straight night, the Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital, Srinagar has recorded the season's hottest night at 24.8 degree Celsius. An Independent Weather Forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng informed the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of 24.8 degree Celsius, which was 6.0 degree Celsius above normal. It ties with the 2nd all-time highest minimum temperature recorded on 26 July 2021 at 24.8 degree Celsius, he said, adding that at top, stays the minimum temperature of 25.2°C recorded on 21 July 1988. Amid the ongoing heatwave, the Jammu Kashmir administration has suspended the classwork for two days upto primary level in the valley. As per an official order issued by Div com, of which a copy is available with The Kashmiriyat, Class work in all Govt & Private schools upto primary level shall remain suspended on 29th & 30th July. The temperatures in the Kashmir valley are hitting new highs with the mercury crossing 36 degrees in Srinagar on Sunday. Parents of the schoolchildren had been constantly seeking an extension in the summer break for the primary classes in the valley. The ongoing heatwave has resulted in significant receding of water levels in across the water bodies of the region, while agriculture has taken a massive hit.
