Three troopers injured in ongoing Kupwara encounter

Three Indian Army personnel were injured in an ongoing operation at Kumkadi Post on the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district on Saturday. Official sources told News agency Kashmir Scroll that three soldiers were injured during exchange of fire near kumkadi post in Loc. They said that injured soldiers have been taken to hospital for treatment. Further details  awaited.

Kashmir: Senior official suspended for alleged sexual harassment at workplace

A senior assistant at the Zonal Education Office in Tral, Pulwama, has been suspended following allegations of sexual harassment. The Directorate of School Education issued an order stating, "Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Senior Assistant at the Zonal Education Office in Tral, is suspended immediately pending an inquiry into his conduct. He has been attached to the Directorate of School Education Kashmir, Srinagar." The District Level Committee for the Sexual Harassment of Women at the Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, will investigate the allegations and is expected to submit a comprehensive report with recommendations within 10 days.

Laila Majnu to be re-released in Kashmir next month

Actor Avinash Tiwary announced on Thursday that his debut film, Laila Majnu, will be re-released in cinemas across Kashmir next month due to popular demand. The 2018 romantic drama, which also stars Triptii Dimri, was written and presented by Imtiaz Ali and directed by his brother Sajid Ali. It was produced by Ali’s former wife, Preety, and Ekta Kapoor. Although Laila Majnu had a modest reception at the box office, it has since achieved a cult following. Tiwary confirmed that the film will hit theatres in Srinagar on August 2nd. Both Tiwary and Dimri have made significant strides in their careers.

Punjab resident allegedly beaten to death at de-addiction centre in Kathua

A 26-year-old man named Sonu, son of Kulwant Singh from Punjab, was reportedly beaten to death at an illegal de-addiction center in Kathua. The center, known as New Hope Life Care Centre, was run by Jatinder Kumar from Jalandhar, Punjab. According to Sonu's sister, her brother was admitted to the center, where he was brutally assaulted by the staff and left unconscious without medical care. The staff then fled, abandoning Sonu's body. The family rushed him to GMC Kathua, where a postmortem was conducted before the body was returned for final rites. A tragic incident occurred in Handwara, in northern Kashmir’s Kupwara district, where a father passed away on his daughters' wedding day. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that Nisar Ahmad Mir, aged 50, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir, a resident of Haril village in Kupwara's Mawer block, died in the early hours of Friday. The weddings of his two daughters were scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday, however, due to the sudden and unexpected death, the ceremonies were canceled following discussions with both families. More than 2,500 pilgrims left a base camp in Jammu amid rain in the early hours of Friday for the Amarnath shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas, officials said.
