Kashmir experiences rainfall deficit of over 85 per cent

The Kashmir valley has experienced significant deviations in weather patterns, with a substantial rainfall deficit during the week of 12th July to 18th July 2024. As per Indian Metrological Department, during this period, the Kashmir region experienced an even more severe shortage, receiving 85.85% below-normal rainfall. The district-wise analysis, as accessed by The Kashmiriyat, for the Kashmir region revealed that Anantnag had an 81% below-normal rainfall for the week and 57% below normal for the season. Similarly, Budgam experienced a 93% weekly deficit and a 61% seasonal deficit, Bandipora had a 92% weekly deficit, and Baramulla reported a 56% weekly  deficit. India to cut import duty on mobile phones, chargers to 15 percent

The government has proposed reducing the import duty on mobile phones, chargers, and certain components used in handset manufacturing in the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that, due to a threefold increase in domestic production and a nearly 100-fold surge in mobile phone exports over the past six years, the Indian mobile phone industry has matured. She proposed lowering the basic customs duty (BCD) on mobile phones, mobile PCBA, and mobile chargers to 15%. After the protests erupted over water scarcity in the Valley, the administration on Monday said that nearly 20 per cent of water supply has been affected in Kashmir. 15-20 percent of the valley’s potable water supply is “badly affected”, the Jal Shakti Department’s Chief Engineer, Er. 17 year old injured after attacked with knife in Sopore

A youth was injured after being attacked with a knife in Sopore area of north Kashmir Baramulla district on Monday late night. An official told News Agency Kashmir Scroll that that a youth was attacked with a sharp edged object in Sopore area who received injuries. Balidan Stambh to come up at Srinagar’s Pratap Park by August 15

The Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) on Monday claimed that the Balidan Stambh, coming up at Pratap Park, is expected to be completed by August 15, 2024. The CEO of SSCL, who also heads the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Dr Owais Ahmad, said the corporation is working to manage the waste at the Achan dumping site scientifically.
