Ahead of much-awaited Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday directed Jammu & Kashmir administration to shift officials who are serving in their native districts or those who have completed three years in a particular district during the last four years. In a letter written to JK’s chief secretary and chief electoral officer, the poll-body has directed that no officer connected directly with elections shall be allowed to continue in the present district (revenue district) of posting if she/he is posted in her/his home district or if she/he has completed three years in that district during last four years or would be completing three years on or before September 30,2024. To address the rising concern of suicide attempts, the Srinagar Administration has initiated a project to install fencing along the sides of major bridges in the city. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, stated that this measure aims to protect lives and has already begun. The fencing project includes the following allocations: Rs 19 lakh each for the Nawa Kadal and Fateh Kadal bridges; Rs 9 lakh for the Gow Kadal bridge; and Rs 29 lakh for the Safakadal bridge. Additionally, the fencing for Noor Jahan Bridge over the Jhelum River at Qamarwari is set to be completed at a cost of Rs 11 lakh.

The data shows a year-by-year breakdown: 796 cases in 2020, 814 in 2021, and 1,005 in 2022. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) collects and publishes annual crime statistics in its report titled ‘Crime in India,’ with the latest available report covering 2022. The expired medicines worth lakhs of rupees have been allegedly dumped in washrooms at New Type of Primary Health Center (NTPHC) in Bagtore village of Gurez. Expired medicines, including Tab. Iron Folic Acid, Tab. Cefuroxime 500, Tab. Folic Acid, and Tab. Acetylcystine was discarded in the hospital washroom to conceal the hospital's wrongdoing. “We have to suffer for every single tablet here. In Gurez, the women mostly face iron deficiency, but the authorities prefer expiring the medicines instead of providing it to the people,” Aijaz Ahmad, a local resident said.
