Balidan Stambh at Srinagar’s Pratap Park to be thrown open to public on Aug 15: SMC

The Balidan Stambh, a memorial dedicated to government forces personnel who died in the line of duty, will be officially opened in Srinagar's Pratap Park on August 15. This announcement was made by Dr. Owais Ahmad, Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, on Tuesday. Dr. Ahmad confirmed, "We had pledged to complete the Balidan Stambh by August 15, and it is now ready. We encourage everyone to visit and honor these great heroes." According to Kashmir News Corner (KNC), there will be no entry fee to visit the memorial. The project, which cost ₹4.8 crore, will have all necessary arrangements in place by August 15.

The latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the Union Ministry of Education has revealed significant shifts in the standings of universities in Jammu and Kashmir. The University of Kashmir (KU) fell 12 places to 45th among Indian universities, while the University of Jammu (JU) made a notable entry into the top 50, ranking 50th. In the overall rankings, KU is positioned 69th and JU is 87th nationally. This marks the first time JU has broken into the top 50 universities. No other institutions from Jammu and Kashmir are in the top 100. On Monday, the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh gave Ganderbal Deputy Commissioner Shyambir Singh two days to determine whether he would submit an affidavit of apology in a criminal contempt case. The court scheduled the next hearing for August 14.
