Encounter breaks out in Srinagar’s Downtown area

Encounter has started between militants and security forces in Khanyar area of Central Kashmir's Srinagar district on Saturday. A senior police officer told GNS that a team of Police and security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Khanyar on a very specific input. As the joint team approached towards the suspected area, the hiding militants fired upon the joint party, leading to an encounter, officer added. Suhail Dar At least five persons were hospitalised due to a suspected case of food poisoning at a hotel in Pahalgam tourist resort of Anantnag district in south Kashmir. Hospital sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Friday afternoon five residents of Srinagar were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning at a lodge in the Laripora area of Pahalgam. After taking ill, they were rushed to  nearby hospital in Pahalgam, from where the doctors referred them to Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag for further treatment. The individuals have been identified as Tawheed Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed; Burhan, son of Bashir Ahmed; Irfath Ahmed, son of Mohammed Ramzan; Owais, son of Abdul Rashid; and Inam, son of Mohammed Shafi—all residents of Srinagar.

Unknown gunmen suspected to be militants fired upon two non-locals in Mazhama Magam area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday evening. A top police officer told GNS that militants this evening fired upon two non-locals near Mazahama resulting injuries to the both persons. They were immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, where their condition is said to be stable. They have been identified as Sanjay and Usman both from UP. They were engaged in Jal Jeevan Project as workers. Soon whole area was cordoned off by the security forces to nab the attackers. More details will follow.(GNS)
