Teenage girl goes missing in Kulgam, family seeks help

Mehnaza Jan, 14, the daughter of Abdul Hameed Shah, a resident of Adapora, Kulgam, has been missing since Monday morning after she left for school, as per her brother's account to The Kashmiriyat. He mentioned that Mehnaza left for school on morning, but when she did not return home, they contacted the school, but the authorities informed them that she had left for home. "Despite searching for her everywhere, the family has been unable to locate her," her brother said. The family has officially reported her as missing at the concerned police station and has issued a public appeal for assistance in tracing their relative. Earthquake of magnitude 3.6 hits Jammu Kashmir

An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter Scale hit Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, said the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). According to NCS, the earthquake occurred at 08:53 am. The tremor's epicenter, located at 33.34 latitude and 76.70 longitude, struck at a depth of 5 km. "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.6, Occurred on 16-01-2024, 08:53:53 IST, Lat: 33.34 & Long: 76.70, Depth: 5 Km ,Location: Jammu & Kashmir,India", the NCS posted on X. No significant damage or injuries have been reported so far.–(ANI)

In Pahalgam, the all-time highest day temperature in January reached 14.1°C, surpassing the previous record, however, at night, the temperature dropped to minus 5.3°C. Pahalgam, however, has surpassed all the previous records, Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said, adding that the previous all-time highest maximum temperature in the month of January was recorded on 14 January, 2018 at 13.8 degree Celsius. Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 13.2°C, while other stations across Kashmir reported above-normal temperatures. Officials told The Kashmiriyat on Monday a fire broke out in the forest area of the Gudder area of Kulgam. They said  said a team of forest department fire tenders rushed to the area to put the fire under control. When last reports came in, fire in the area was going on. As many as 4578 incidents of forest fire have been reported in Jammu Kashmir in the past one decade. “In J&K, 4578 forest fire incidents have been reported during last ten years, and on an annual average, a total area of 1273 hectare has been impacted,” official documents revealed in 2021.
