In a deeply disturbing incident in Nebua Naurangia village of Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, three Muslim women were allegedly assaulted and paraded naked on January 2. The attack reportedly stemmed from allegations that the son of one of the women had eloped with a Dalit woman. According to reports, members of the Dalit woman's family barged into the house of the Muslim youth’s family, assaulted his mother and two aunts, forcibly stripped them, and paraded them naked through the village. A total of 41 fire incidents have been reported across Kashmir in the first seven days of 2025, with 9 cases from Srinagar, officials said. Aqib Hussain Mir, told news agency JKNS that, Kashmir reported 41 fire incidents in first week of 2025, with Srinagar reported 9 incidents alone. A CRPF assistant sub-inspector allegedly shot himself with his service rifle in Jammu Kashmir's Reasi district on Tuesday, officials said. Rajnath Prasad (55), a resident of Bihar, allegedly shot himself on the chest inside a makeshift Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) picket along the Tarakote route leading to Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, they added Prasad's colleagues rushed to the scene on hearing the gunshot and found him lying dead. Police have launched inquest proceedings, the officials said. The exact motive behind Prasad taking his life is yet to be ascertained, they added.–(PTI)

32 dead as 7.1 magnitude earthquake strikes Nepal-Tibet border

At least 32 people lost their lives, and 38 were injured after a 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Nepal-Tibet border on Tuesday, according to some media reports. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake occurred at 6:35 AM (IST), with its epicentre at latitude 28.86 degrees North and longitude 87.51 degrees East, at a depth of 10 kilometres. The epicentre was located in Xizang (Tibet Autonomous Region), near the Nepal border. Xinhua news agency reported that 32 people in the city of Xizang were killed and 38 others were injured when the earthquake struck the region.
