Panic has struck the Hillar area of Dooru in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after allegedly consuming drinking water in the area.
As per locals, Hundreds of people have fallen ill due to allegedly drinking unhealthy water in the south Kashmir area.
They said that four days ago, some people complained of sickness after drinking water and since then hundreds of people have complained of similar sickness. “We rushed all of them to the nearby hospital, however, the actual cause of the pain is not known as of yet,” Abdul Rashid a local told The Kashmiriyat.
He said that people irrespective of age have fallen sick after drinking contaminated water.
Demanding an early inquiry into the incident, he said that the Jammu Kashmir administration should intervene in the matter at the earliest.
Officials upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat that the staff of the health department was mobilized and medical aid was provided to the sick people. “The cause of the outbreak is probably unhealthy water. So far, 210 people have been provided medical aid but there is no need to panic,” Dr. Nisar Zonal Medical Officer said.
Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Zulfiqar Malik said that water samples have been obtained but according to preliminary information the water is not contaminated.
Despite this, the department is taking important steps to take care of the health of the people.
