It has been reported that on Sunday, a total of 24 patients lost their lives due to the lack of oxygen in a hospital in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district hospital. It is said that many among them were Covid-19 patients.
As per a report by the Deccan Herald, the district administration has maintained that 12 among the deceased died due to the lack of oxygen while the others due to severe ailments.
Locals, however, alleged that even the non-covid patients had to face oxygen shortage, which resulted in their deaths.
“A total of 24 deaths have happened between Sunday morning and Monday morning. While 23 have died in the district hosptial, one person has died at a private facility. We can not say that all patients have died due to lack of oxygen,” said Dr M R Ravi, the Deputy Commissioner of the district Chamarajanagar.
Relatives and family members of the deceased, most of whom belonged to the 30-40 age group, gathered around the hospital premises and blamed the officials for the incident.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has asked the health minister Dr. Sudhakar to immediately visit the district and look into the situation. He has also called upon a meeting on Tuesday evening to look into the matters of shortage of oxygen across the state.
Meanwhile, INC leader Rahul Gandhi, took to Twitter to criticize the government over the incident.
“Died or Killed? My heartfelt condolences to their families. How much more suffering before the ‘system’ wakes up?”, Gandhi tweeted.
