26-Year-Old CPI(M) Leader Hacked to Death by BJP-RSS Activists in Kerala

A 26-year old local leader of Communist Party of India (Marxist) P.U. Sanoop was hacked to death in Kerala’s Thrissur on Sunday night by a group of right-wing activists, belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bajrang Dal.

On Sunday night around 11:30 pm Sanoop was attacked along with three other CPI(M) workers, Jithu, Vipin and  Abhijit, who were critically injured in the attack, and rushed to the hospital.

The CPI(M) state chief Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said, “The murder of Sanoop was done by Sangh Parivar members, including a former Congress worker, who joined the BJP recently. The BJP and the Congress have become a safe haven for criminals. The leaders of those parties are using their criminal activists to eliminate political enemies.”

Sanoop along with other three were attacked while returning after distributing food, at Thrissur Medical College Hospital everyday by the DYFI. He was a member from the Dalit community was the area joint secretary of DYFI.

A statement issued by DYFI,“When attacked they (Sanoop and other DYFI activists) were in the preparation to distribute food packets in Thrissur Medical college. We join the deep grief of his family. Eliminating a comrade definitely hurts us deeply. But our movement cannot be eliminated. Come out on streets protesting this brutal murder and the dehumanization of politics,” it said.

The state has witnessed four political killings in the last two months, all of them members belonging to CPI(M) and DYFI.
