300-year-old mosque bulldozed in UP

On Thursday, a 300-year-old mosque was razed to the ground in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar.

It was blocking the 709 AD Panipat-Khatima highway in Sherpur village.

“A 300-year-old mosque that came in the way of 709 AD Panipat-Khatima highway…was demolished on Thursday for road widening,” Parmanand Jha, SDM Muzaffarnagar told Times Now.

The SDM revealed that the residents in the area were asked to relocate the religious structure several times, and the directive was not honoured before the deadline passed. So the authorities had to move forward with the demolition of the mosque.

“The local SDM said the area residents were asked to relocate the mosque several times in the past, but since they did not do so past the deadline the mosque had to be pulled down,” he added.

Parmanand Jha further mentioned that two more structures on the government land would be demolished soon.

“Two more religious structures built on govt land are to be pulled down in the same stretch of the highway,” Jha added.

He stated that it was a development move as it would facilitate the widening of the national highway.
