31 houses searched in Srinagar in connection with UAPA cases: Police

Srinagar Police has intensified search operations across multiple locations in the city in connection with various cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The operation, part of the broader investigation to dismantle the terror-support infrastructure in the district, has so far seen searches at the residences of more than 100 individuals, Police said in a statement.

In the latest round of operations, searches were conducted at the residence of Sahil Nisar Ganie, son of Nisar Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Shankarpora, who is involved in FIR No. 127/2020 of Police Station Nowgam. Residences of Mehraj-ud-Din Rather, son of Gh Mohammad Rather of Boatman Colony, and Gh Jeelani Bhat, son of late Gh Mohammad Bhat of Khodpora Saidakadal Rainawari—both linked to UAPA cases registered at Police Station Khanyar—were also searched.

Danish Altaf Malik, son of Altaf Ahmad Malik from Arampora Nawakadal; Qazi Usmaan, son of Qazi Muzaffar from Haka Bazar Nowhatta; and Altaf Ahmad Dar, son of Mohd Abdullah Dar from Malikpora Barthana—all allegedly linked to different UAPA cases—had their houses searched as well. Searches were also carried out at the residence of Mohd Asif Nath, son of Mohd Younis Nath from Barthana, who is involved in the same case as Altaf Ahmad Dar.

As per the statement, Amir Ahmad Gojri, son of Mohammad Ramzan Gojri from Summerbugh, who is currently in NIA custody, was also among those named. Residences of Muzaffer Ahmad Mir and Rameez Ahmad Mir, both sons of Khursheed Ahmad Mir from Makdom Colony Maloora and involved in a high-profile FIR from 2021, were also searched.

Babar Suhail, son of Mohammad Yousf Sofi of Lawaypora, and Adil Mohammad Lone, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Bazar Mohalla Lawaypora, were also part of the police’s focus, as was Zahid Ahmad Illahi, son of Ab Rashid Illahi from Aliabad, involved in an FIR from 2020.

In the Sozeith area, searches were carried out at the residences of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Aziz Bhat; Mohammad Ayoub Parray, son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray; Ghulam Rasool Parray, son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray from Dumail; Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, son of Abdul Rehman Bhat; and Abdul Ahad Bhat and Sonaullah Bhat, both sons of Ab Rehman Bhat.

The crackdown further extended to the residences of Tawheed Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Khaliq Bhat from Sozeith Goripora; Mohammad Ashraf Wani, son of Habib Ullah Wani; Abdul Rehman Wani and Mohammad Ali Wani, both sons of Habib Ullah Wani; Gulzar Ahmad Wani, son of Habib Ullah Wani; and Ashraf Ahmad Wani, son of late Ghulam Qadir Wani, all from Goripora Sozeith.

From the Panzinara area, searches were conducted at the houses of Mohammad Ashiq Malik, son of Haji Abdul Razaq Malik; Abdul Rashid Malik and Shabir Ahmad Malik, both sons of Ghulam Ahmad Malik; Farooq Ahmad Parray; and Bilal Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Razak Naik, all of whom have been implicated in multiple FIRs.

Additionally, Nisar Ahmad Wani, son of late Ali Mohammad Wani from Mumkhan Mohalla Rainawari, was also among those whose residences were searched in connection with an FIR registered at Police Station Khanyar.

“All searches were conducted in accordance with legal procedures, in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses, under the supervision of senior J-K Police officers,” the statement read.
