In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, the Jammu Kashmir Government has ordered the closure of 48 out of 87 tourist destinations across Kashmir, Daily Excelsior reported today.
The destinations now off-limits include Yousmarg, Doodpathri, Aharbal, Kousarnag, Bangus Valley, Verinag Garden, Sinthan Top, Margantop, Akad Park, Babareshi, and the Buddhist Monastery, among others.
According to officials quoted by Daily Excelsior, closures at some locations are temporary, while others have been fortified with additional security measures.
Simultaneously, the newspaper reported a sharp decline in passenger traffic at the Srinagar International Airport. The number of flyers dropped significantly after April 23. On that day, the airport handled 17,653 passengers, while by April 26, the number had fallen to 14,783, despite the number of scheduled flights remaining relatively stable. Officials attributed the fall mainly to increased security concerns following the attack.
Meanwhile, Daily Excelsior reported that Srinagar Police have intensified their crackdown on terror networks, conducting searches at 34 locations across the city. With overall house searches across Kashmir now exceeding 1,000, authorities stated that these raids are aimed at dismantling terror-support infrastructure and gathering critical evidence.
A police statement cited by the report emphasized that searches were carried out in accordance with legal protocols, supervised by Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses.
The operation targets individuals suspected of involvement in conspiratorial and terrorist activities, with the police reiterating their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
Earlier, the Jammu Kashmir Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the Pahalgam terror attack, describing it as a “direct assault on the ethos of Kashmiriyat.”
The resolution endorsed diplomatic measures against Pakistan. Chief Minister remarked that the public outrage against the attack signals the “beginning of the end of terrorism” in the region.
