Around 50 Sarpanchs and Panchs of two blocks of Ramban district of Jammu Kashmir have tendered their collective resignations over various issues, officials said on Saturday.
They said that the elected representatives have resigned accusing the administration of not empowering them as promised, along with unnecessary interference and ignoring their programs to reach out to the people in the region.
After the resignation of the representatives of the rural body, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) hit out at the BJP government, saying, “The imaginary normalcy and the pomp that was being shown has been exposed.”
Ashok Singh has held a meeting with the representatives of the protesting members and requested them to withdraw their resignations and assured that their grievances will be resolved as soon as possible.
Sarpanch Ghulam Rasool Mattoo, Tanveer Ahmed Katoch and Mohammad Rafiq Khan alleged that the promises made to them by the government are still limited on paper.
They alleged that they were being ignored and unnecessarily interference of officials in development works prove the Government promise of Gram Sabha’s share in 30 government departments to be a “brutal joke.”
