50 Per cent Tax Likely to Be Reduced on Liquor in Jammu Kashmir

The Jammu Kashmir administration may soon abolish the additional 50 percent tax on liquor. The Excise Department has sent a proposal to the Finance Department to remove it, Amar Ujala reported.

The proposal sent by Excise Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Shawan said that during the review of revenue collection in the last two months, it was found that the sale of liquor in medium and low economic brands and in army and para military canteens has come down.

50% tax on these has affected the sale of liquor from the open market and canteen. The depot of the army has also led to lower sales in the union territory as compared to last year. It has come to the notice that many states have withdrawn the additional tax.

The Excise Commissioner has said that it is recommended to remove 50% of the additional tax till the new policy is introduced.
