A 50-year-old woman tried to commit suicide by jumping into river Jehlum at Khankahe-e-Moula area of Srinagar on Tuesday morning.
Though she was rescued by local people at Nawakadal, she died on the way to the hospital, the official sources said.
The identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained. She was fished out by locals and police at Nawa Kadal. Later, she was taken to the SMHS hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
A case has been registered by the police and the investigations are underway.
