9–10 Pakistani jets, including F-16s and JF-17s, destroyed during Operation Sindoor: IAF chief

Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh on Friday claimed that the IAF destroyed 9 to 10 Pakistani fighter jets, including U.S.-made F-16s and Chinese-Pakistani JF-17s, during Operation Sindoor conducted in May 2025.

The operation was launched in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam and targeted multiple strategic sites across Pakistan.

The IAF chief stated that the strikes achieved all military objectives efficiently and decisively, describing the operation as a significant success for India’s defense capabilities.

According to him, the destroyed aircraft included some of Pakistan’s most advanced fighters, highlighting the effectiveness of India’s air and ground defense systems, including the S-400 air defense system.

Addressing Pakistan’s claims regarding the operation, the IAF chief dismissed them as “manohar kahaniyan” (fanciful stories), emphasizing that the Indian assessment of the operation reflected accurate operational outcomes.

He further mentioned that the operation not only neutralized aerial threats but also caused substantial damage to military infrastructure.

Air Chief Marshal Singh made the claim public during the 93rd Air Force Day celebrations, underlining India’s preparedness and operational superiority.
