9-year-old girl injured in snake bite in Kulgam

A minor girl was injured after being bitten by a snake in the Motigan Nihama area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.

According to her family members, who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, the girl, aged 9, was in her orchard when the incident occurred. She was immediately rushed to a nearby health facility, where she received initial treatment.

Considering the severity of the bite, doctors referred her to the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar for specialized care.

Her condition is reported to be stable, officials confirmed. A senior doctor posted at the District hospital Kulgam, speaking to The Kashmiriyat, said, “The injured girl suffered a snake bite while she was out in the field on Saturday afternoon. She was brought to the hospital by her family members. She was shifted to Srinagar from here.”

Meanwhile, the incident has triggered concern among locals, who have called on the authorities to take urgent steps to control the increasing presence of snakes in the area.
