An online complaint has been filed against a woman for using derogatory language against hijab-wearing women. In a copy of a complaint received by The Kashmiriyat, the complainant has urged the Jammu Kashmir police to initiate action against the woman for “publicly defaming and using derogatory, sexually explicit language against women who choose to wear the hijab.”
The complainant said, “Such actions not only tarnish the dignity of these women but also promote communal disharmony and violate their fundamental right to dress according to their beliefs.”

The complainant who chose to be anonymous has said that the woman who used the “defamatory language” on X must be booked for “Section 116 of BNS: Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc. Section 117 of BNS: Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings. Section 77 of BNS: Sexual Harassment and use of sexually coloured remarks. Section 354 of BNS: Punishment for Defamation.”
The complainant has expressed hope that the police will initiate “swift and appropriate” action and prevent “further harm and ensure justice.” Earlier, a handle named Humaira Shafi (@humairaShafi7) had posted on her X account “Girls hiding faces have done something wrong that let’s them to hide their identification in public. In High Court most of the cases, girls who cover their faces are involved in sexual offences, have very bad record. I respect the command of Almighty Allah but unfortunately these days some women r misusing burqa.”
Humaira’s comments had evoked sharp criticism from social media users most of whom targeted her for trying to moral police women on they wear.
A twitter user wrote, “Modesty isn’t abt wrongdoing, it’s about values, dignity, &personal choice. Maybe instead of assuming the worst, try understanding things beyond ur limited perspective!”

This is called mental sickness , how can you generalise the hijab and burqa wearing females based on your filthy perception and character. You are not targeting particular individuals , but you are abusing a whole Muslim Ummah. If you are ok to demonstrate ur modesty in public , that doesn’t give you the right to judge others, twitter user Aadil wrote.
Rashad Amin Malik, another twitter user wrote, ‘Hiding face in public doesn’t necessarily imply wrongdoing. It is imp to recognize an individual s choice to conceal face nd should not be automatically equated with guilt nd suspicion. Moreover these girls are involved in noble cause.
Weak argument mam.”
