Police have registered a case against Maulvi Ashfaq, the cleric of Kazitola mosque, for allegedly using a loudspeaker without permission during afternoon prayers on March 1.
According to police, Ashfaq had been informed of restrictions on loudspeaker use on February 25 but proceeded to use it again on February 28 and March 1 without the required authorization.
Authorities said the loudspeaker’s high volume disrupted ongoing board examinations and disturbed nearby residents, including those with health issues.
An FIR has been filed under sections related to disobedience of public orders and public nuisance.
In a related crackdown, three others were also booked for installing loudspeakers at religious sites without permission, amid growing enforcement of noise pollution rules.
Courts, including the Allahabad and Bombay High Courts, have previously ruled that loudspeakers are not essential to religious practice and can be regulated to prevent public disturbance.
