Mourning women allegedly kicked by Police in Kulgam, DIG to probe

The deaths of Riyaz and Showkat in Kulgam have left their families devastated, but instead of solace, they have faced further anguish.

Grieving women protesting for justice were allegedly manhandled by police, with videos surfacing on social media showing an officer kicking mourners—an act widely condemned as inhumane and shameful.

Following public outrage, the Jammu Kashmir Police acknowledged the incident, announcing an inquiry into the officer’s conduct.

“We have taken cognisance of the yesterday’s incident and the allegations regarding the officer’s conduct.DIG SKR will enquire and submit his findings within 10 days,” Kashmir Police Zone posted on X.

However, the police response has done little to pacify anger on the ground, as residents demand immediate accountability and justice for the grieving families.

The incident also echoed in the Jammu Kashmir Assembly, where political leaders raised concerns over the alleged police excesses.

Lawmakers questioned the treatment of the mourning families and called for strict action against the officer involved.
