‘Aye Mahe Ramdhan Alvida’: Emotions, Devotion run high as thousands flock mosques on Jumatul vida in Kashmir

The final Friday of Ramadan, Jumat-ul-Vida, was observed with deep devotion across Kashmir, as thousands gathered in mosques and Khanqahs to offer special prayers. The day, marked by gratitude and reflection, saw worshippers seeking divine mercy and praying for another opportunity to witness the holy month in the coming year.

In Srinagar, however, authorities barred congregational prayers at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta. The mosque remained locked, leaving many devotees disappointed. “It is painful to see this mosque closed on such an important day,” said Abdul Rashid, a local resident. Despite this, large gatherings took place at Hazratbal, Khanqah-e-Moula, and Dastgeer Sahib, where sermons emphasized repentance, charity, and the blessings of Ramadan.

District-wise Report of Jumat-ul-Vida Observance

Anantnag saw one of the largest gatherings at Jamia Masjid Anantnag, with thousands of worshippers in attendance. Other significant congregations were held at, Khiram Dargah, Kabamarg, and Aishmuqam. “This day reminds us of our mortality. We pray we are granted another Ramadan, but only Allah knows,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, a devotee at Jamia Masjid Anantnag.

In Pulwama, the main congregations were at Jamia Masjid Pulwama, Khanqah-e-Faiz Panah Tral, and Rajpora Masjid. Religious leaders spoke about patience, compassion, and the importance of remembering the less fortunate as Ramadan draws to a close.

Shopian witnessed large gatherings at Jamia Masjid Shopian, Pinjoora Masjid, and Reshinagri Mosque. Worshippers reflected on the spiritual journey of the past month, with many expressing sorrows at Ramadan’s departure.

In Kulgam, major prayers were held at Jamia Masjid Kulgam, Chimmer Sharif, and the Khanqah of Syed Simnani. The sermons focused on gratitude, forgiveness, and preparing for Jumat ul vida.

Baramulla saw a significant turnout at Jamia Masjid Baramulla, Jamia Masjid Sopore, and Janbaz Wali Khanqah. Many attendees spent extended hours in prayer, seeking blessings in the final days of the holy month.

Kupwara’s main congregations took place at Jamia Masjid Kupwara, Muqam-e-Shahwali, and Lolab Masjid. The mosques remained filled throughout the day as people engaged in supplications and Quran recitations.

Ganderbal saw large gatherings at Qamaria Masjid, Baba Haniefuddin Khanqah, and Gutlibagh Mosque. Sermons focused on the significance of the last ten days of Ramadan and the rewards of worship during this period.

In Budgam, Imambara Budgam and the Khanqah of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani at Charar-e-Sharif drew large crowds. In Beerwah and Magam, the mosques saw high attendance, with special prayers held for peace and prosperity.

Bandipora witnessed Jumat-ul-Vida prayers at Jamia Masjid Bandipora, Aham Sharif Khanqah, and Markazi Jamia Masjid Sumbal. Religious leaders spoke about the importance of continuing acts of kindness and charity beyond Ramadan.

As Ramadan nears its end, the atmosphere across Kashmir was filled with both reverence and a sense of longing. “This is the real essence of Kashmir—faith, reflection, and the uncertainty of whether we will see another Ramadan,” said Bashir Ahmad, a worshipper in Baramulla.

With Jumat-ul-Vida prayers now concluded, attention turns to the approaching celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr.
