Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday, met Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah at the Tulip Garden in Srinagar, saying it was merely a chance encounter during a morning walk.
“A beautiful morning walk became a political discussion, echoed even in the J&K Assembly! I briefly came across CM Omar Abdullah sahab and Farooq Abdullah sahab during an early morning visit to the Tulip Garden to avoid inconvenience to tourists and visitors. We exchanged pleasantries! Let’s enjoy the beauty of Kashmir beyond politics,” Rijiju wrote on X.
The meeting, however, triggered sharp reactions from opposition parties, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which accused the ruling National Conference (NC) of extending a “red carpet welcome” to the minister responsible for moving the contentious Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament during the recent Budget session.
